February 25, 2018 The Second Sunday in Lent
Collect for the Second Sunday in Lent: O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Sunday School: Sunday School is held each Sunday at 10:00 am in the downstairs classroom. Sunday School is open to all children from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Adult Discussion Group: Each Sunday at 9:00 am the Adult Discussion Group meets in the Chapel to discuss an examination of the life of Jeremiah. The book that will guide us will be “Run with the Horses” by Eugene H. Peterson. Feel free to join us at any time. While reading the book in advance may be beneficial, it is in no way a requirement for entering the discussion. Contact Wayne Stratz at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Sandwich Ministry Weekly Message:
(This message was included in each sandwich bag handed out on Friday, February 23rd.)
Remember as children we played a game called “Whisper Down the Lane”? The game was played by the first person in line whispering a sentence to the second person in line, so forth down to the end of the line. Then, the person at the end of the line would speak out loud the sentence that he or she heard. Usually, by the time the sentence made it all the way to the end of the line, it was very different from the original sentence whispered at the beginning of the line. It is good to know that for spiritual matters in our Christian daily walk, we do not have to depend on only the spoken word passed down through generations. We have the Bible, which is the inspired word of God, in which we can read God’s word as given to His servants and prophets. Join us at Holy Trinity on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am as we read God’s word. Sunday School for children in grades K-5 is available at 10:00 am.
“The Lord exists forever; your word is firmly fixed in heaven.” Psalm 119:89
Weekly Community Social Networking Event: Every Monday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, we hold a discussion group led by David Nejako. This is open to anyone from the parish or the community who would like to join in a group to discuss different subjects. The topic for discussion on Monday, February 26th is “Concepts of Hell”. Anyone who would like to connect with others in a discussion group setting is invited.
Lent Service Reception: As noted below, the Broad Street Churches Lent Service will be held at Holy Trinity on February 28th. We will host a reception in St. Margaret’s Hall following the service. Please sign up to bring light refreshments and plan on joining in the service that evening. The food sign-up sheet is on the Parish Life bulletin board outside the sanctuary doors.
Broad Street Churches Lent Services: This year we are again joining with the Lansdale Methodist and First Baptist, churches both located on Broad Street, for a series of Wednesday night services during Lent. Each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, beginning on Wednesday, February 14th through March 21st, one of the three churches will act as the host church and one of the three churches will provide a preacher. The schedule has Holy Trinity providing a preacher on March 7th at the First Baptist Church; and we are leading the service at Holy Trinity on February 28th and March 21st with a reception following the service.
The full schedule is posted on the Parish Life bulletin board. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of these services. Each week we will list in the Herald the service information for the upcoming week:
February 28th at 7:00 pm at Holy Trinity. The preacher will be Rev. Eric Kraihanzel from First Baptist Church. The topic will be “Giving Up Superiority”.
Caring Committee: “As the Father has loved me so I have loved you”—loving words of our Savior. We have people in our Church who need our help, time and love. If you can take someone on an errand (grocery store, pharmacy, etc.) or give them a ride to church, please call David Nejako at 215-767-6333.
