The Weekly Newsletter of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
February 4, 2018 Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany
Collect for Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany: Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.Amen.
Sunday School: Sunday School is held each Sunday at 10:00 am in the downstairs classroom. Sunday School is open to all children from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Adult Discussion Group: Each Sunday at 9:00 am the Adult Discussion Group meets in the Chapel to discuss an examination of the life of Jeremiah. The book that will guide us will be “Run with the Horses” by Eugene H. Peterson. Feel free to join us at any time. While reading the book in advance may be beneficial, it is in no way a requirement for entering the discussion. Contact Wayne Stratz at email@example.com if you have any questions.
Sandwich Ministry Weekly Message:
(This message was included in each sandwich bag handed out on Friday, February 2nd.)
Observing the world around us and listening to the world news each day, can cause all of us to feel that everything is spinning out of control. Each day seems to bring a new crisis and a new problem for which there does not seem to be any resolution. Although it may seem this way to us with our “earthly eyes”, God is not surprised, alarmed or one bit unsure. The Bible tells us that our God is omnipotent (all powerful), omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time) and omniscient (all knowing). So this means He is still in full control and knows the future. Through prophecy in the Bible, we can rest assured that God has no limits, has a plan and is every minute of every day in full control of all situations. He is truly an almighty God who we can depend on and trust. You are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings at Holy Trinity at 10:00 for our service. Sunday School is also available at 10:00 am for children in grades K-5.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:13
Weekly Community Social Networking Event: Every Monday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, we hold a discussion group in St. Margaret’s Hall led by David Nejako. This is open to anyone from the parish or the community who would like to join in a group to discuss different subjects. Anyone who would like to connect with others in a discussion group setting is invited.
Annual Chili Cook-Off: Join us on Saturday, February 10th at 6:30 pm for the Annual Chili Cook-Off. Bring your best chili to challenge for the “Golden Spoon”. Chili of all shapes, sizes and styles are welcome. Look for the sign-up sheet in the Narthex or let Bill Keith know if you would like to bring chili or anything else. As always this is a BYOB event and please have all food to the church by 6:00 pm. Friends and family always welcome!!
Adult Bible Study: The Vestry has elected to begin a weekly adult Bible study. At the Vestry’s request, The Rev. Alan Broadhead will lead this study. It will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
Broad Street Churches Lent Services: This year we are again joining with the Lansdale Methodist and First Baptist, churches both located on Broad Street, for a series of Wednesday night services during Lent. Each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, beginning on Wednesday, February 14th through March 21st, one of the three churches will act as the host church and one of the three churches will provide a preacher. The schedule has Holy Trinity providing a preacher on March 7th at the First Baptist Church; and we are leading the service at Holy Trinity on February 28th and March 21st with a reception following the service.
The full schedule is posted on the Parish Life bulletin board. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of these services. Each week we will list in the Herald the service information for the upcoming week:
