The Weekly Newsletter of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
January 7, 2018 First Sunday after the Epiphany
Collect for First Sunday after the Epiphany: Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Sunday School: Sunday School is held each Sunday at 10:00 am in the downstairs classroom. Sunday School is open to all children from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
Adult Discussion Group: Each Sunday at 9:00 am the Adult Discussion Group meets in the Chapel to discuss an examination of the life of Jeremiah. The book that will guide us will be “Run with the Horses” by Eugene H. Peterson. Feel free to join us at any time. While reading the book in advance may be beneficial, it is in no way a requirement for entering the discussion. Contact Wayne Stratz at email@example.com if you have any questions.
2018 Giving Envelopes: Please pick up your box of 2018 Giving Envelopes now available in the Narthex. If you do not have a box and would like one for 2018, please let Pat in the Church Office at 215-855-4431 or firstname.lastname@example.org know and we will prepare a box for you.
Sandwich Ministry Weekly Message:
(This message was included in each sandwich bag handed out on Friday, January 5th.)
Do you know someone who is a “perfectionist”—always looking to do everything absolutely perfectly, have the perfect relationships and family and surround themselves with those people who they feel are perfect in every way. There is no room in the perfectionist’s life for errors in judgment or actions, relationships that are emotionally “messy” or people who cannot meet their high standards. Life is often disappointing for the perfectionist because no one or no circumstances can meet their impossible standards. Only God is perfect. God does not look at us as “imperfect” or “not up to standards”. He accepts us as we are with our faults, failures and missed opportunities. In fact, He accepts us into his family of believers just as we are. You don’t need to be perfect before recognizing Jesus as your Savior and Lord; you only need to be willing to trust and follow Him.
“…for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” I Samuel 16:7b
