The Weekly Newsletter of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
July 30, 2017 Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Collect for Eighth Sunday after Pentecost: O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
New Priest Announcement: At the Sunday, July 23rd service, we announced the exciting news that we are in the process of finalizing the details of getting a new permanent part-time priest at Holy Trinity. Her name is The Rev. Christina Nord, and some of you may remember that Pastor Christina was a supply priest for us for a period of time in 2009. Over the next few weeks, we will be finalizing with the Diocese the details of Pastor Christina’s transition to Holy Trinity. We expect her first Sunday service to be held on Sunday, August 27th.
This also means that we will be saying good-bye and thank you to The Rev. Patricia Cashman, who has been acting as our supply priest since January 2016. We will be holding an expanded coffee hour on Rev. Patricia’s last Sunday, August 20th, to include a going away party for Rev. Patricia. (Please note this was originally announced as August 13th, but has been changed to August 20th). Please plan to attend this party and thank Rev. Patricia for her service to Holy Trinity.
The Vestry is excited to begin this new phase of leadership at Holy Trinity by Pastor Christina; and look forward to working with her. A formal welcome will be held for Pastor Christina during our Rally Day celebration on Sunday, September 10th.
Sunday School: Sunday School is held each Sunday at 10:00 am in the downstairs classroom. Sunday School is open to all children from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
SUNDAY SCHOOL IS IN RECESS FOR THE SUMMER AND WILL RETURN ON RALLY DAY, SEPTEMBER 10th.
Clean-Up Day: We will be holding a church clean-up day on Saturday, August 5th from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, and need your help in order to complete a list of items that need to be accomplished that day. We will be cleaning up the alley in back of the church, cleaning gutters and downspouts and clearing items for disposal that we have been accumulating in a downstairs room. Our friends from Renew Community, who are presently renting the church during the summer, will be coming to help us as well. Please mark your calendar and spend as much time as you are able to on August 5th to get our church looking its best.
Ice Cream Fundraiser: Holy Trinity is working with Sundae World on a second ice cream fundraiser. This will work the same way as our July ice cream fundraiser. If you go to Sundae World and purchase ice cream onSunday, August 6th, and tell the counter folks that it goes to Holy Trinity, we will receive 50% of all purchases. The only requirement is that you tell them your purchase is part of the Holy Trinity fundraiser. Sundae World is located at 1801 N. Broad Street in Lansdale. Please tell your friends and relatives about this fundraiser—the more people who purchase ice cream and give the Holy Trinity name August 6th, the more money Holy Trinity will make!
Farewell & Thank You Party for Rev. Patricia: On Sunday, August 20th, we will hold an expanded coffee hour so that we can say good-bye and thank you to Rev. Patricia for her service with Holy Trinity. A sign-up sheet is on the Parish Life bulletin board outside the Sanctuary if you would like to sign up to bring a food item to this expanded Coffee Hour for everyone to enjoy. Please plan to join us after the service for this event.
Vacation Bible School: It is with regret that we announce that we will not be holding Vacation Bible School this summer. It is something that we have always enjoyed doing, and know it was a blessing to many of the children attending; but we were unable to bring all the aspects of the program together this year in time to make it a successful program. We will work to get a Vacation Bible School program running again in future years.
Weekly Community Social Networking Event: Every Monday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, we hold a discussion group in St. Margaret’s Hall led by David Nejako. This is open to anyone from the parish or the community who would like to join in a group to discuss different subjects. The topic on July 31st will be “Ernest Hemingway’”. Anyone who would like to connect with others in a discussion group setting is invited.
Adult Bible Study: The Vestry has elected to begin a weekly adult Bible study. At the Vestry’s request, The Rev. Alan Broadhead will lead this study. It will be held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.
